Simpler, on purpose

This one is mostly a reminder to myself.

A reel by amandajanefranz stopped me this week. Thirty seconds of surf and low sun, a few words at a time laid over it. The thread is that the more you grow, the less you want around you: less clutter, less noise, less distraction. The things that once seemed urgent, and all the chasing, start to feel heavy.

It landed because right now I have a lot. Too many things running at once, too many tools, too many rules I set for myself. None of them arrived as clutter. Each was a reasonable addition on its own: one more thing to track, one more way to be organised. Then one day you look at the pile and it is heavier than the work it was meant to help.

I need to step back. Not to plan a better system, because that is how I got here, but to ask of each thing: what happens if I simply stop? Most of the time the honest answer is nothing. The thing goes. What survives that question is the work that matters, the people who matter and enough quiet to notice both.

Simple is not what you start with. It is what is left after you remove the rest.
